Serena Williams Is Finally On A Wheaties Box
Wheaties cereal has been featuring elite athletes on their boxes since 1958, the newest one to make the box is Serena Williams.
Wheaties has put some of the best athletes as the face of their boxes since 1958. Winning Olympic gold medals or titles for athletic competitions are impressive, but everyone knows being on the cover of the Wheaties box is the highest honor.
In case you don’t know how big of a deal this is, since 1958, Wheaties started featuring elite athletes on their packaging to go along with their slogan, “The Breakfast of Champions.” Athletes who have made the box have made a lot of history and Serena is no exception.
Serena Williams is famous for changing women’s tennis with her powerful style of play and for winning more Grand Slam singles titles (23) than any other woman or man during the open era. She’s won four gold medals, and now she’s the second black female tennis player to be on the Wheaties box.
“In 2001, Wheaties paid homage to a true champion and an icon by putting her on the cover of a Wheaties Box. Althea Gibson was the FIRST Black Woman tennis player to be on the box,” Serena wrote on Instagram, with a photo of her own box cover. “Today, I am honored to be the second.”
