Here Are Some Rumors About America That Foreigners Didn’t Realize Were True!
As Americans, there are plenty of things we see as normal that aren’t so normal for foreigners. What we see as common might seem foreign to a foreigner…see what we did there?
Here are some things foreigners thought were only rumors, but were actually true!
This whole discussion came to be when someone asked, on Reddit, “What is the craziest rumor you heard about America that turned out to be true?” Sure enough, the answers started rolling in.
Here what people had to say:
- “That it’s illegal to cross the road whenever it’s clear if the cross signal doesn’t say ‘walk.’ ‘Jaywalking’ is the term I think.” – So…foreigners just walk across the road on their own?
- “When I was younger I saw something on an American movie about cheese that came in some kind of spray can and I remember thinking it was a joke.” – Us Americans take our spray can cheese very seriously.
- “All of the car honking. I thought it was a movie stereotype and then I went to New York.” – We are a very expressive group of people.
- “That Americans will talk to anyone. I went to a sports bar on my first visit to try it out. I ended up having a ton of really fun conversations.” – We do love to talk, especially about sports.
- “I always thought that the Olive Garden in ‘The Simpsons’ was just code for ‘generic restaurant.” – Oh…it’s real all right. Have you had to live without knowing the wonders of Olive Garden? My sympathies.
- “That Dolly Parton has her own theme park in Tennessee. I thought it was a joke.” – Dolly Parton is the woman we all wish we could be.
- “Literally anything about what goes on in Florida.” – Florida is a state of many interesting people and attractions.
So, apparently, what we know to be completely normal, foreigners didn’t even realize were true. As Americans, we couldn’t even imagine life without Olive Garden…or spray can cheese.
