Manipulation At It’s Finest, By Bosses
For most of us with any work experience, we have worked with a boss that has attempted to manipulate. Here are 6 phrases you should not let your boss use to manipulate you.
- “Work is your family.” Although I believe in having good, strong work relationships, I have never considered my co-workers as my family. We have a common bond… work!
- “I need you to be available at any time.” Based on my work experience, I have never been told that I needed to be available at “any” time for business. I have no problem working overtime and even days off to meet business needs, but there is life outside of work.
- “Everything is fine.” I have been told, “Everything is fine”, only to receive a pink slip 3 days later.
- “That’s not my problem.” My working experience has been with pretty good management who were responsible for the most part so the “problem”, didn’t start and end with me solely.
- “This is how we’ve always done it.” This is definitely a non-creative boss and in most environments, the only constant is change.
- “Don’t you agree?” This one should be #1, total manipulation! Most environments that encourage employee input, thrive.
