14 Year Old Wins Charlotte Spelling Bee With A Shade Of Yellow
Twenty-five spellers competed on Monday representing thirteen counties in the Carolinas.
Spelling bees are no joke. The 2018 Charlotte Observer Spelling Bee was on Monday and we learned today that our very own Roy would not have won.
Eva Vega, 14, won on Monday and she revealed that her favorite studying tool is reading! The eighth-grader was already familiar with the final word of the night and that was because she reads and studies the “word of the week” on Instagram!
What was that final word? Stramineous. It means straw-colored. Of course, we had no idea, but the 14-year-old made it look so easy so we’ll let her do the spelling from here on out.
Due to her first-place finish, Eva will now have an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., courtesy of the Charlotte Observer.
