In fact, visitors to North Carolina spent more than $28.9 billion in the state in 2021. Governor Luther Hodges founded the North Carolina Travel Industry Association in 1955 with the goal to “consolidate resources and promote our great State,” so they keep up with the latest travel numbers. Moreover, according to the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, “North Carolina is the fifth most visited state for domestic visitation in the U.S., making it an ideal location for tourism and hospitality businesses. All 100 counties in the state are committed to the success of this industry that employs 7.5% of North Carolinians.”

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is actually the most-visited national park in the U.S., according to Visit North Carolina.
