Escaped Otter AND Rat Terrorize Passengers On A Plane
Animals getting loose on a plane can be a terrifying experience for passengers and crew members alike. It is not uncommon for airlines to transport animals in the cargo hold of the plane, but there have been instances where animals have escaped and caused chaos on board.
One such incident occurred in 2018 when a passenger’s pet hamster was flushed down a toilet after being told by a flight attendant to dispose of the animal. The incident sparked outrage and led to questions about the treatment of animals on planes.
Other animals that have gotten loose on planes include snakes, birds, monkeys and now both a rate and an otter terrified the plane’s cabin!
It’s no “Snakes on a Plane,” but it’s still pretty bad…
According to the NY Post, a plane going from Bangkok to Taiwan fell into chaos recently when a rat and an otter that had been smuggled on board got loose during the flight. As passengers and flight crew went into full panic mode, one recalled, “They kept looking for the white rat and an employee caught the rat,” adding, “It bit them on the hand while they carried it back to the kitchen at the back of the plane.”
Upon landing in Taipei, a police search uncovered a box of 28 live turtles, a marmot, a snake, two otters, and two more rodents. Turns out, one female passenger allegedly smuggled all the creatures through security in Thailand. She now faces a penalty of up to $31,000, according to the Prevention and Control of Animal Infectious Diseases statute.
