Data Shows South Carolina Is One Of The Least Tech Savvy States
Technology is ever-changing. And with the recent introduction of AI to the general public it’s continuing to evolve. And with so much of our day-to-day lives dependent upon technology, there are criminals looking to prey on that dependency. Data from the FBI says that in 2022 Americans were the victims of $10.3 billion worth of online scams. Think of how much good the people conducting these scams could do (and how much money they could make and contribute to teh economy) if they used their skills for good. But that’s a tangent. In order to avoid falling victim to these types of scams, it’s important to be able to recognize them and combat them. It’s important to be “tech savvy”. Well, new research from our friends at BetCarolina shows that South Carolina is one of the least tech savvy states in the country.
And when I say least, I mean least. South Carolina ranked 46th out of the 50 states. Only Georgia, West Virginia, Delaware, and Nevada ranked lower than the Palmetto State. The number of people employed in tech Jobs in the state is 108,840. Here are some of the other metrics this study measured as well as SC’s total tech score.
- Average SAT Score: 1030
- Average IQ: 97.8
- Percentage of the population with a Bachelor’s Degree: 29
- Fraud Reports (per 100,000 people): 1128
- Total Tech Score: 17.51
The highest-ranked states include Massachusetts, California, Minnesota, Utah, and Wisconsin. North Carolina ranked slightly below the median coming in at the 27th most tech savvy state. The rankings included metrics such as SAT and IQ scores, degrees, and the amount of individuals employed in the state in tech jobs.
