A Carolina Man Took A Mayonnaise Bath
A Carolina man took a mayonnaise bath recently all for his football team! Last weekend the South Carolina Gamecocks took on the North Carolina Tarheels at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. As a native of Greenville, South Carolina which is just a short hour and a half drive from the Queen City, I grew up learning two things; there is no speed limit on I-85 and if you’re adding mayonnaise to anything it better be Duke’s Real Mayonnaise. In 1917, Eugenia Thomas Slade Duke created Duke’s Mayonnaise. It’s been a staple of the Carolinas ever since. If you’ve ever been to downtown Greenville, you can stop at the company’s original factory. It’s behind the Peace Center of Performing Arts and right next to the Peace Center Amphitheater along the Reedy River. The building’s current name is the Wyche Pavillion. the whole area’s beautiful. This mayonnaise bath, however, wasn’t.
ESPN College Gameday’s first broadcast was last Saturday. The entire crew travels to a new college football city each week where thousands of fans meet them with trash-talking signs, energizing amounts school spirit, and crazy antics that only the locals or college students would understand. To kick-off the season in college football, sometimes there are games that are branded after something that is traditional to that area. Each year Bank of America Stadium hosts the Duke’s Mayonnaise Classic. It was even more fitting this year because that the two teams who were playing are big schools in the Carolinas. All of the fans brought their Carolina spirit to the heart of uptown Charlotte. This also included a bucket of Duke’s Mayonnaise to smother themselves in. A Carolina man took a mayonnaise bath and it was absolutely the grossest thing I’ve ever seen. Watch!
