Ever Wondered Where the Last Blockbuster is Located?
Do you remember your days of going to Blockbuster? I sure do! My dad used to take me and my brother every time he had us for the weekend and we each got to pick out a new movie and some snacks. Visiting the Blockbuster Friday nights in West Ashley, South Carolina was one of the highlights of our weekend. Walking through the aisles and seeing all the cool vibes that Blockbuster had to offer made movie night so exciting.
In 2010, Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy as streaming services began their rise in the movie industry. As more and more locations began to close, we all were saying goodbye to our local Blockbuster locations. At the peak of Blockbuster days, there were nearly 9,000 locations. But, did you know that there is ONE Blockbuster location still open? Yeah, you read that right… open! KTLA reports that the final Blockbuster location is located in Bend, Oregon. When you visit the Blockbuster location it’s just like taking a walk in the past. Walk down the aisles and check out rows and rows of candy, snacks, movies, and so much more inside the yellow walls. New customers can still open a new membership with the location and even rent DVDs for $4, says KTLA. There is also a $2 souvenir membership card which the majority of visitors love to get.
In 2020, Netflix released “The Last Blockbuster” documentary which helped bring more attention to the store. Now, it is one of the best spots to visit when traveling in Oregon. I may not have any plans to visit Oregon anytime soon, but now I am like well maybe I need to go ASAP. Honestly, I am not sure what else is in Bend, Oregon but the fact that I could visit Blockbuster is enough reason to take a trip! Who is down to go with me?
