Lorde wants her concert-goers to shut up…. at least during one specific song at her concerts. Big Lorde fans like me, can you guess which one that might be?

Resurfaced videos have popped up from the last few years of the singer/songwriter actually shushing fans during her rendition of “Writer In The Dark.” Junkee says when it’s performed live, she makes it clear she wants fans to stop singing along. This makes so much sense to me personally, because if you know the song well or have heard Lorde speak about the song, you know it’s a deeply personal one.

Public reaction to her shushing has been split. Some people say if they pay for a ticket to a show, they can sing as loudly as they want. On the other hand, others say they also paid for a ticket and want to hear the artist actually perform, not the drunk person next to them.

Plus, it’s Lorde’s song so I think she can tell us to shut up if she wants?!?!? LOL…

Either way, TikTok users are now having a field day in meme-ing her during the song: the stop sign, finger to the lips, and the big shush.

Watch this video that might make you cringe a little…

Which side are you on – sing your heart out or the artist has every right to shush the audience?
