North Carolina Teacher Makes Largest Costco Haul Ever For Good Cause
This time of year a lot of focus is placed on charity, and much of that is gifts for children who otherwise may not have any. And that is absolutely important. But something that often gets forgotten, is food for those same children. Many school-aged kids rely on schools for meals throughout the day. And two weeks off from school for winter break is an added expense for parents who may already be struggling. And it was filling that need that led to one North Carolina teacher making the most largest and expensive Costco haul, perhaps ever. The price tag? $103,079.70.
Seven years ago a Durham, NC teacher began what is known as the “Bull City Fundraiser” with the goal of making sure local students don’t go hungry during winter break. She was inspired by a text message from a family who was struggling and Mrs. Parker knew they weren’t the only ones.
Seven years later that has grown to helping several local schools and with a goal of helping all of Durham. A local attorney T. Greg Doucette has taken on fundraising for the project, after being one of the first individuals Mrs. Parker reached out to. Much of the money raised came from a simple Twitter thread.

BULL CITY FOODRAISER
The largest Costco haul benefited a total of 5,103 students at 12 different schools where 98% of students receive reduced or free lunch. After the purchase was made 60+ volunteers from the community got to work packing up the food, loading it on trucks, and delivering the meals.
