Turkeys & Hams Are Dwindling
Over decades our moms would pull turkeys and hams out the oven, but in 2021 many have gone down the vegan route. A faux turkey is basically molded loaf or casserole made with vegetarian protein. Tofu is kind of the stuffing flavored with broth and seasoned with herbs and spices. Burmese Tofu, known as Chickpea Flour Tofu is another turkey alternative.
The ham alternatives looks like vegan ham slices in the deli, and it looks like Target & Walmart have options. Don’t forget about whole-paycheck, aka Whole Foods that has an array of Thanksgiving meal packages for every palate. If you’re the type of person that eats with your eyes, vegan turkey loafs are not pretty. Many turkeys are slaughtered without being stunned at all. In the processing plant, turkeys are shackled by their legs and hung upside-down. The turkeys’ throats are slit on a circular blade before being placed in a scalding tank meant to loosen feathers. If turkeys are not properly stunned, they often miss the blade. Okay, that paragraph is enough to switch to eating like a vegan.
