Venture Out This Weekend
Spring is here! The birds are chirping, the bees are buzzing, the flowers are blooming and the weather is continuously getting warmer. Are you tired of being clammed up in the house? Looking for something new and fun to do? Why not visit one or all of these cool locations right here in Charlotte, NC?!
The McGill Rose Garden- This park is over an acre large and covered in more than a thousand rose bushes! It also has beautiful fountains, sculptures and benches for your lounging pleasure along its pathways. It was also named an All-America Rose Selections public garden, making it one of the highest-quality gardens in the United States. And, it’s free to all with no admission fee. Take your family or your friends and indulge in the lovely aroma and scenery this garden has to offer.
The Musical Parking Garage- This parking garage was designed by an artist of the name Christopher Janney. He calls this piece, “Touch My Building.” He designed it to encourage people to take a break and interact with their surroundings. It’s nine stories tall and is covered in blue and purple rectangles that are connected to tall red fins. When you touch the fins, they light up and begin to play music. With that being said, the building also has a mind of its own. Different tunes automatically play every hour and a “ghost” in the building will sometimes trigger random performances. This would be great if you have kids or just enjoy having a little fun!
Big Rock Nature Preserve- Located in a residential neighborhood is a wooded area and within that wooden area are huge, gigantic rocks or boulders, if you will. Apparently, these are the largest exposed boulders in Mecklenburg County by a long shot. People say it looks like someone just picked them up and plopped them down right in the middle of the woods. Their bizarre nature has been bringing in visitors for thousands of years. If you’re a nature person or just feel like going outdoors, this is the perfect place to go!
