Walmart Is Saying Goodbye To ‘Black Friday’ Beginning On Thanksgiving Day
Walmart is ending a long (and somewhat controversial) tradition; per Business Insider, the company will keep all stores closed on Thanksgiving Day.
In a statement, John Furner, the president and CEO of Walmart, explains the decision. He said, “We know this has been a trying year, and our associates have stepped up. We hope they will enjoy a special Thanksgiving Day at home with their loved ones. We are certainly thankful to our people for all of their efforts.”
The company will also keep Sam’s Club closed on the holiday.
Walmart has also announced that it would provide another round of bonuses (of $150 or $300) to employees on August 20. This will be the brand’s third round of bonuses since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, Walmart has given out $1.1 billion in bonus money.
