Video: ‘David Copperfield’ Escapes From Historic Charlotte Hotel On This Day 30 Years Ago
Today marks a day in illusion history. David Copperfield made a near death escape on this day thirty years ago. Of course we may assume this is all fake, and if you watch the video it kind of seems like a studio as oppose to the real hotel that was being demolished. Hotel Charlotte was where it all “went down”. It sat on the corner of Trade and Poplar in what we now call “uptown”. Many celebs and presidents stayed at this hotel, but it closed down in December of 1973.
Copperfield sat in a safe in the hotel and only had minutes to escape. And wow, look how small Charlotte was back then!
