Sickle Cell Awareness Month
You don’t hear much about Sickle Cell Awareness Month, but it does exist for the entie month of September. Medical researcher and surgeon Dr. Charles Drew was the creator of blood transfusions, and his discoveries improved techniques for blood storage. Drew applied his expert knowledge to developing large-scale blood banks early in World War II. Thanks to Dr. Charles Drew who invented a way to process and preserve blood plasma, allowing it to be stored and shipped for blood transfusions; you’re invited by Delta Sigma Theta and Omega Psi Phi on September 21, 2019 from 10 am to 3 pm at Omegas of Charlotte Fraternity House located at 3301 Statesville Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206. The goal is to collect 80 units of blood.
