Grocery Store Shopping The Right Way
Somehow we’ll get the spirit to throw a party for the holidays and that’ll require extra grocery store visits. Some people like to go to the grocery store, but no one wants to spend their hard eraned money on high priced items. I’ve found it helpful to reduce both the time I spend at the store and the amount of money I spend is to plan out the menu for the week, and then make the grocery list based off of that menu. Words to the wise, don’t go grocery shopping while you’re hungry! I typically only plan dinners, since breakfast is usually pretty simple with everyone rushing about and lunch is usually sandwiches or, for myself, sometimes leftovers. Dinner is where the time and love get put into a family meal, so its important to have something that tastes good, is nutritious, easy to make and doesn’t break your budget. Planning out a menu on the weekend helps fulfill all of those requirements. Once the menu is complete, write out your list for the ingredients you will need.
I used to go up and down every aisle at the store and grab things that I think I might want to eat later. Often times those items would sit on a shelf and never get used. Once I started writing out a menu for the week, my shopping trip got much shorter and my week got that much easier. No more digging through the fridge or freezer trying to figure out what I could through together to feed the family. By planning out the week, making sure I picked up all the ingredients on my last shopping trip, getting dinner on the table was one less thing I had to worry about. Grocery shopping is one of those necessary evils, so control what you spend.
