Cooking and Holiday Fires
Residential fires during the holiday are more costly, and more deadly than any other time of the year.Property loss during a holiday fire is 34% greater than in an average fire, and the number of fatalities per thousand fires is nearly 70% higher.
A few tips so that your household doesn’t become a holiday fire statistic are as follows.
- Do not leave a cooking pot on the stove unattended.
- If you burn candles, make sure there is a foot space between the candle and anything that can burn.
- If you put up Christmas lights for decoration, inspect the light strings, and throw out any with frayed or cracked wires or broken sockets. Happy Holidays!
