CMS 2018 Teacher of the Year

April Johnson, an art teacher at Tuckaseegee Elementary School, has been named CMS teacher of the year for 2018.

Johnson received the award: which included $1,500, a one-year lease on a new car, and classroom supplies, on May 9 at Butler High School. She attended Winston-Salem State University where she went on to earn a degree in arts education, it wasn’t until 2016 that she joined CMS. Johnson is an avid believer that art is a fantastic equalizer for students. She believes that art is a medium in which students can express themselves and discover new things that they are capable of doing, which they never knew they could. If you want to know more about Johnson’s story click here
