Did You Know These Hot ‘New’ Songs Use Samples From Past Hits?
There’s a reason this new song sounds so familiar…
They say imitation is the best form of flattery!
Here are some of the “new songs” that have a connection to the past.
1. DJ Khaled and Rihanna “Wild Thoughts“. This song just came out and let’s be real, IT’S HOT.
But….. that famous guitar solo at :52 is actually from a 1999 hit with the legendary Santana called “Maria Maria“. Well, okay actually the entire beat is from that song.
2. Ed Sheeran has won records with his new album “Divide” but he’s admit that his single “Shape of You” has some inspiration from the girl group TLC.
Listen at :56 on Ed’s song and compare it to :40 for TLC “No Scrubs“. You’ll see what I’m talking about!
3. Camila Cabello is making noise with her new solo hit, “Crying in the Club“. But uh, she didn’t fool anyone with those iconic notes that the one and only Christina Aguilera hit in “Genie in a Bottle“.
Check out Camila at 2:50 and Christina at :35!
4. Speaking of going solo… Liam Payne also sampled a past hit in his new song “Strip That Down“. His chorus at :26 matches perfectly with Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me” at 1:02.
5. Rihanna’s on the list again but it’s with Kendrick Lamar for his song “Loyalty“. This was an easy find, especially when I recognized it on my own! The beginning sounds like a total sample of Bruno Mars “24K Magic“.
