Lexi’s Listens is a new weekly post I’ll do with the songs I’ve been singing to nonstop! My hope is that if you’ve never heard of these, you might discover some new hits to listen to.
Throwbacks for Springtime!
This week, I’ve been getting excited about spring, so a lot of these are upbeat, happy songs. Three of these songs are much older; Natalie Cole’s “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)”, Blue Swede’s “Hooked On A Feeling”, and Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose’s “Too Late To Turn Back Now”. If you don’t recognize these, you might when you hear them. Check them out as the first two songs on the list. Natalie Cole’s song always reminds me first of A Cinderella Story, and then The Parent Trap since it’s featured on both of these soundtracks.
Grace VanderWaal
I haven’t discovered any emerging artists this week, but I hope if you’ve never heard of Grace VanderWaal, you’ll really love her song “So Much More Than This”. If you remember a few years ago, Grace was a contestant on America’s Got Talent. Her incredibly unique voice made her stand out as well as the fact that she was one of the youngest people going through the competition. Her song is so positive that I love to play it when it gets warm outside…it just fits 🙂
Who else saw John Mayer at the Spectrum Center?
On Monday, I got to see John Mayer perform at the Spectrum Center with my mom!! And of course it was the BEST SHOW! But, do you ever go to a concert and the artist doesn’t play the ONE song you realllllly want them to play? That’s how I felt when John didn’t play “Why Georgia”, which is my favorite song of his. It’s from his Room For Squares album, and he played other songs from that album. But not this one…if you only know his newer stuff or haven’t heard Why Georgia before, give it a listen at #5. I think the guitar at the beginning is why I love it so much…
New Harry
Last but certainly not least is Harry Styles’ new song “As It Was” which I have been OBSESSED with. Fun fact about that song: the little girl who says the opening for the song is actually Harry’s goddaughter who was trying to, yes, say goodnight to him. :’) That song is amazing and it absolutely fits the music video, which is below if you haven’t seen it yet (or if you want to watch it for the millionth time like me LOL!) Doesn’t it make you just want to spin around in circles??? <3
