Australian Breakdancer Raygun Speaks Out On ‘Devastating’ Reaction
Raygun, the Australian Breakdancer who went viral for her unique performance that earned her 0 points in the 2024 Paris Olympics is finally speaking out about the hate she’s been receiving online that she calls “devastating.” She’s heard the comments and she’s had enough.
The Australian Breakdancer (real name: Rachael Gunn) has been all over the internet since her performance captivated the world. There are all sorts of memes online and rumors even started about how she secured her position in the Olympic Games. Now, she’s speaking out against all the negative comments about her online.
Australian Breakdancer Raygun Speaks Out After Viral Performance
Raygun, the Australian Breakdancer, may not have medaled during the Olympic Games in Paris, but she’s one of the biggest stories from the games. I couldn’t tell you the names of many Gold Medalists but I am very familiar with Raygun and her viral performance. It’s been everywhere since it happened. There was a trending meme comparing it to Elaine’s infamous dance from Seinfeld, a viral meme of her dancing to Peter Griffin from Family Guy, and more. If you’re on the internet, chances are you’ve seen at least one of these memes.
Raygun recently took to Instagram asking for the hate and negative comments about her and her performance to stop. In the video, she says, “Hi everyone. Raygun here. I just want to start by thanking all the people who have supported me, I really appreciate the positivity and I’m glad I was able to bring some joy into your lives, that’s what I hoped.” She continued, “I didn’t realize that that would also open the door to so much hate, which has frankly been pretty devastating. While I went out there and I had fun, I did take it very seriously. I worked my butt off preparing for the Olympics and I gave my all, truly. I’m honored to have been a part of the Australian Olympic team and to be part of Breaking’s Olympic debut. What the other athletes have achieved has just been phenomenal.”
You have to feel for her! Imagine practicing and training your hardest for an event in front of the entire world and then everyone thinking you’re trolling and didn’t take it seriously. It would sting! It reminds me a bit of a story Zach Galifianakis told during his guest appearance on Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee where he said he was crying while giving a speech at his sister’s wedding and the whole crowd was cracking up thinking it was a bit–but he was being serious. He also shared the story on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
In the video, the Australian Breakdancer also addressed the rumors and misinformation going around the internet. There have been rumors online that she stole a spot in the games and there are a lot of conspiracy theories about how she ended up in the games with her husband being a judge at the qualifier. However, these rumors are not true, as pointed out by Business Insider.
What’s next for her? She’s planning on enjoying some pre-planned downtime in Europe and is requesting that the media stop harassing her loved ones and the Australian Breakdancing community. She did mention that she’ll be happy to answer questions once she’s back home in Australia.
