About 50% of People Report Mental Health Struggles Due To Finances
Well the good news, if you can call it that is you’re not alone when it comes to mental health struggles due to finances. Stress and anxiety can be some of the most isolating feelings in the world. Even more so when it’s regarding money, it feels like there is no way to deal with it.
But the feeling of knowing an experience isn’t unique to you can be comforting. And this issue is impacting a majority of us. So you’re certainly not alone. And the data backs that up.
Our friends at Jenius Bank, recently released the findings of a new survey, The Mind-Money Connection: How Managing Your Finances Can Make You Happier. The study revealed, “tangible ways consumers’ financial situations intertwine with our mental health and wellbeing”.
Mental Health Struggles Due To Finances
Some interesting statistics from the study include over 50% of respondents reporting that finances make them stressed, causing anxiety and/or symptoms of depression. This also translates to a loss of sleep reported by 52.8% of respondents with around a third reporting headaches and about 30% saying it is straining relationships.
Yes, yes, and yes to all of the above.
And with prices soaring, wages not keeping up with inflation, and no end in sight many are asking how and when does it get better? What is the end game? As a millennial, we were told to work hard and it would pay off. But it’s a completely different game than when our parents are grandparents were starting out.
In the past, being “rich” might have been thought of as driving fancy cars and owning statement homes. But these days, data suggests that “not having financial debt (33.4%), retiring early without concern of running out of funds (33.1%), and establishing generational wealth (27.8%)” are what those surveyed consider the threshold for “rich”.
Jenius Bank’s report, surveyed more than 4,000 U.S. consumers. They did this in the wake of significant financial hurdles for many across the country. And the data shows, mental health struggles due to finances are an issue many of us are facing. These financial pressures are causing stress and anxiety. Which if left untreated can have an effect on nearly every facet of people’s lives.
