States With The Worst Drivers? South Carolina Is In The Top 10
I could rant for hours about how terrible the drivers are in Charlotte. No one stops, uses turn signals, or follows any sort of traffic laws it seems. And no one enforces the laws, so I guess this is what you get. But a new study by Forbes has ranked the states with the worst drivers, and it’s South Carolina, not North Carolina with the worst. The purpose of the study was to identify the states where it’s the most dangerous to get behind the wheel and drive. Forbes used 6 metrics to determine these rankings:
- Number of drunk drivers (BAC of 0.08+) involved in fatal car accidents per 100,000 licensed drivers.
- Number of fatal car accidents involving a distracted driver per 100,000 licensed drivers.
- Number of fatal car accidents involving a drowsy driver per 100,000 licensed drivers.
- Number of fatal car accidents involving a driver who was driving the wrong way on a one-way street or on the wrong side of the road per 100,000 licensed drivers.
- Number of fatal car accidents involving a driver who failed to obey traffic signs, traffic signals or a traffic officer per 100,000 licensed drivers.
- Number of drivers who looked at a phone per mile.
Based on these factors South Carolina ranked 10th for the worst drivers. On the contrary, North Carolina ranked 28th making them in the half of the country with better drivers. Despite what I see daily on the roads here. The top three states with the worst drivers? Texas, Lousiana, and Kansas.
