According to The Charlotte Observer, Hubee D’s shut their doors in Charlotte this week. The Providence Road location opened in 2013. And, it was the chain’s last standing location.
The restaurant’s owners point to tough times as a result of the pandemic saying, “It’s been a struggle to recapture where we were before the pandemic started.” And, staffing problems remained at the forefront of the challeges.
The beloved Charlotte chicken chain saying goodbye started in 2010 in Charleston. Customers flocked to the spot for its chicken tenders and wings. And, the chain previously had locations in South Carolina and Georgia.
However, those spots have since closed. And, as you might imagine, the social media announcement from the restaurant was met with sadness from frequent guests, with some saying, “I’m gutted…” and “we will miss it so much.”
We remember Hubee D’s fondly as they often catered food to radio shows in our office. And, I can tell you when they showed up, the food was quickly gobbled up!

What’s Next After This Charlotte Chicken Chain Closed?
Apparently, popular market and eatery Salted Melon plans to open a second location. This is an interesting concept already in Charlotte on Worthington Ave. across from another of our favorites, Superica Tex Mex.
Salted Melon serves an all day elevated menu morning, noon and night. Diners enjoy freshly prepared breakfast, sandwiches, salads and wraps. Diners can choose hot and cold beverages, espresso, cappuccino and more.
Salted Melon also features gluten-free and vegetarian choices. And, counter service as well as seated brunch and dinner options are available too.
Plus, Salted Melon has a gourmet grocery store with fresh foods made to order, packaged products, fresh produce and more. So, this concept should go over well in the former location of Hubee D’s.
Salted Melon will more than likely be ready to open over the summer. So, we’ll keep a watch on the progress. And, for more on Hubee D’s, the Charlotte chicken chain closed after all this time, see the full story.
