North Carolina City Makes Top 10 Cities For Tech Professionals
If there is a list of the best tech cities that has to include NC right? Correct. Our friends at Cloudwards, a leading tech publication, just shared with us research that confirms just that. Can you guess which North Carolina city made the top 10 cities for tech professionals list? The answer should be obvious.
This comes from Cloudwards 2024 ranking of the top tech cities across the United States. The study analyzed 100 different US cities on 17 factors. Among these were livability, education, and career opportunities, as well as internet coverage and quality, startup ecosystems, and tech communities. And Raleigh ranked 6th among the top tech cities in 2024.
This should come as no surprise given the capital city’s proximity to Research Triangle Park. Additionally, the Raleigh area is home to the software company SAS which is a dominant player in the market and consistently ranks as one of the best places to work. And I have many friends who work there so I can attest that they feel the same way. There are also a number of major colleges and universities in the greater Raleigh area with many graduates opting to stay. In this study, Raleigh received its highest scores in internet infrastructure (it ranked 2nd) and livability (11th). Cloudwards had this to say about the City of Oaks. “While offering promising career and education opportunities (28th), it seeks growth in innovation and entrepreneurship (34th) and tech community development (38th).”
While Raleigh was the highest ranking it was not the only North Carolina city included in these rankings. Charlotte and Durham both received respectable rankings 25th and 24th respectively. Greensboro and Winston Salem however ranked in the bottom half of the rankings. The two triad cities ranked 66th (Greensboro) and 70th (Winston Salem).
Nationally New York City and Washington, D.C. secured the top two positions. And San Fransisco game in third. You knew California had to be pretty high on this list. Seattle, while home to Amazon and Microsoft ranked 20th.
In a world that is ever dependent on technology, it is a great career path to follow. Not only do we have the educational foundation for those careers in North Carolina we also have some of the top cities for tech professionals. And this will only grow more important in the years to come. Thanks to our friends at Cloudwards for sharing their research with us. You can view the full list and study here.
