Rod Stewart: Not A Fan Of Ed Sheeran’s Music
Rod Stewart attends the Sun's Who Cares Wins Awards 2021 at The Roundhouse on September 14, 2021 in London, England. Ed Sheeran attends the 58th Academy Of Country Music Awards at The Ford Center at The Star on May 11, 2023 in Frisco, Texas.
Rod Stewart is apparently not a fan of Ed Sheeran. In a recent interview with The Times, the 79-year-old British rock and pop star was asked to list current artists he believes are making timeless music. Stewart is among the best-selling music artists of all time, with his iconic raspy singing voice and timeless songs of his own like “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You” and “Maggie May.”
The English singer-songwriter expressed to the publication that he’s sure there are artists making music that will stand the test of time, played in 50 years, like his own 1971 song, “Maggie May.” As he tried racking his brain about which artists come to mind, Stewart forgot a certain musician’s name. Instead, he listed that he is “British, really talented, and his songs will be around.” The Times reporter guessed Ed Sheeran as the name of the musician he was referring to. Stewart bluntly replied, “No, not Ed. I don’t know any of his songs, old ginger bollocks. Jesus.”
Rod then began singing the lyrics, “I’ll be riding shotgun,” which the outlet recognized as George Ezra’s “Shotgun.” Agreeing, Stewart added that he believes Ezra “writes really tremendous songs. He’ll be around for quite a while.” During Stewart’s interview, he also listed his favorite songs of all time: 1988’s “Cars and Girls” by Prefab Sprout and 2014’s “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson.
Elsewhere in the interview, Stewart slammed the current state of the music industry, saying artists now prioritize fame “before everything.” When he debuted in the ’60s, the singer-songwriter said money and fame didn’t matter – it was “a burning ambition to sing.” Now, he believes artists “don’t even have to play well” and pursue a music career to chase riches.
Meanwhile, Stewart sold his song catalog as well as some name and likeness rights for nearly $100 million, according to WSJ. Stewart boasts a catalog that includes ten #1 albums, and he has charted six consecutive decades with studio albums that sold more than one million copies each. Later this month, Stewart will release his 32nd studio album, a big band album called Swing Fever with Jools Holland with his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.
These Celebrities Have February Birthdays
February may be the shortest month of the year with just 28 days (29 on a leap year), but there are plenty of celebrities born in the second month of the year! People born in February are either Aquarius (born between February 1 and 18) or Pisces (February 19 to 28/29). Unique, highly intellectual, and creative, Aquarius can be an enigma to others but never to themselves. Air sign Aquarius is represented by the water bearer, the mystical healer who bestows water, or life, upon the land. They are the last of the air signs, and of all the zodiac signs, Aquarius is the most innovative, progressive, rebellious, and humanitarian. Aquariuses are known to be intellectual and curious, often interested in conspiracy theories and out-of-this-world thoughts.
Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet that governs innovation, technology, and surprising events. This perfectly complements Aquarius’ nontraditional nature. Aquarius also have a reputation for being cold and detached, sometimes so focused on their plans that they neglect their family and friends. Even though Aquarius can let the present slip away from them, their free-spirited and eccentric personalities make them so charismatic.
Meanwhile, February Pisces are typically the most stereotypical Pisces. Since February-born Pisceans are ruled purely by Neptune, they tend to embody those dreamlike and creative qualities. This can be both a strength and weakness, making Pisces born in February natural creatives who excel at channeling their deep feelings into meaningful works of art. Regardless, Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, making it the most wise and psychic of all the other signs. There is much to be learned by Pisces, who tend to live half in a dream state. Represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions, the constant division of Pisces’s attention between fantasy and reality is seen as this yin-yang symbol.
It is no surprise that many talented actors and musicians are born in the month of February. See below which of your favorite stars have a February birthday!
