Sam Asghari Files For Divorce From Britney Spears

Author Brian Ives // Managing Editor, Beasley Media
August 16th 11:12 PM

Earlier today, we reported on rumors that Britney Spears and her husband Sam Asghari have separated and were heading for a divorce. Sadly, those rumors were confirmed tonight. ET reports that Sam Asghari has filed for divorce from the pop star. Earlier today, gossip site TMZ reported that Asghari confronted Spears over rumors that she had cheated on him.

TMZ reports that Asghari cited “irreconcilable differences” for the reason for filing for divorce. According to California law, “irreconcilable differences” “are those grounds which are determined by the court to be substantial reasons for not continuing the marriage and which make it appear that the marriage should be dissolved.”

According to Cornell Law School, “Generally, courts do not inquire into what the differences actually are. The irreconcilable difference can even simply be that one party wishes to have a divorce and the other does not. Thus, both parties do not need to agree to a divorce premised on irreconcilable differences.”

ET, however, reports that “She’s adamant she didn’t cheat.” Yet, they report “The two haven’t got along for a while.” They add that “It finally came to an end after a major blowup.” TMZ predicted that, even though the couple had a prenuptial agreement, their split will probably result in Spears paying Asghari some sort of compensation.

As we previously reported, Spears recently announced her highly-anticipated memoir is coming out later this year. Titled Britney Spears: The Woman In Me, fans can expect Spears to dish out secrets she’s held on to during the course of conservatorship, as well as the events following. The Woman in Me is available to pre-order. According to the book’s official site, it is “written with remarkable candor and humor.” Leading up to the July announcement, Britney told her 42 million followers that she worked her “a– off,” and it took “a lot of therapy” to get the book done. The book’s release date is currently October 24. No word if the book will be delayed.

13 Britney Spears Music Videos That Influenced Pop

You can’t possibly be a fan of pop music without being a fan of Britney Spears, who dominated the industry for almost two decades. The “Princess of Pop” has pumped out some of the most iconic music videos that influenced how musical artists incorporate choreography with their music as well as setting fashion trends.

Below, we have gathered our top 13 videos that Britney’s put out over the course of her career that have influenced the realm of pop music.

  • If U Seek Amy

When this song came out, everyone went wild with Brit’s clever play of words with the song title (If you get it, you get it. We’re not explaining this one). Britney plays up her sex appeal in the video, wearing black lingerie and a smoky eye in a hotel room with bodies lying around her.

  • (You Drive Me) Crazy

Melissa Joan Hart and Adrian Grenier make appearances in the music video, named after the 1999 rom-com movie Drive Me Crazy the two actors starred in. The video features epic Y2K choreographed dance battles that they just don’t do enough of anymore.

  • Me Against The Music

The Princess and Queen of Pop got together for the most epic showdown. Britney wears a sexy suit and tie, while Madonna wears an all-white suit. Our favorite part of the video is when the two pop superstars interact with each other through a wall that they share in different rooms.

  • Womanizer

Britney bared it all throughout her “Womanizer” music video. She wears a short black wig and black-and-white outfit in an office, completely dominating the man who thinks he’s womanizing her, but she knows just what he is. Throughout the video, her character goes through many disguises to torment the poor chap, much to our amusement.

  • Gimme More

“It’s Britney, bitch.” Britney takes a shot at her pole dancing skills in “Gimme More.” But she never slides down the pole! Still, we think she’s achieved the effect she was going for with the high-energy dance track.

  • Stronger

Probably the most 2000s-sounding song, “Stronger’s” music video embodies all of the aspects of the era as well. From the futuristic white and silver outfits to Britney dancing solo with a steel chair, there’s a lot of iconic imagery. It shows why she’s a legend as a singer and dancer. And of course, they incorporated a rain scene.

  • Lucky

We would absolutely die for Britney’s luxe pink robe in “Lucky.” She’s channeling old Hollywood glamour here. The video’s plot: Brit plays a lonely successful star, Lucky. It does hit a bit close to home, as the singer later went through personal problems in the public eye.

  • Circus

She sure knows how to do product placement in this video, from her perfume line to Bulgari jewelry. Our favorite part of the video is when flames surround Britney and her dancers and elephants join in. The 2008 dance track is a metaphor for the public’s perception of Spears’ life.

  • I'm A Slave 4 U

Everyone in this video is a hot, sweaty mess. That doesn’t seem to bother Britney, though, who wears a pink thong over leather pants — an iconic look. The 2001 song was written by Pharrell Williams and has become one of Spears’ signature hits, and is considered one of the defining pop songs of the early 2000s.

  • Work Bitch

We love how hype “Work Bitch” is, but the dancing was definitely overshadowed by the massive amounts of explosions. Also, did you peep that Beats gag ball? Britney’s definitely working it in the 2013 EDM track. Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am also wrote the song with Spears.

  • ...Baby One More Time

“Oh baby, baby.” Britney’s pop career was propelled with this one, at the tender age of 16. Fun fact: the video was shot at Venice High School in Los Angeles, which was the setting for Rydell High in the movie Grease. She channels “Sandra Dee” from the beginning of the film and the black leather-clad “You’re The One That I Want” Sandy, simultaneously.

  • Oops!...I Did It Again

Britney went intergalactic with this one. Her red patent leather jumpsuit went down as one of the most iconic looks in pop music video history. During its bridge, Spears delivers a spoken-word dialogue that references the blockbuster hit from a few years prior, Titanic.

  • Toxic

Buckle up, since flight attendant Britney is up to no good, taking one lucky passenger for a trip to “the mile-high club.” Her nude, bejeweled catsuit was shocking for the era. It was something only she could pull off. Finally, Britney was blessed to ride on the back of a motorcycle with supermodel Tyson Beckford, before she backflips off superhero style. “Toxic” is by far her most iconic music video to date — and it cost $1,000,000 to make.
