The rankings of the safest cities can highlight cities with low crime rates and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer.
There are criteria that determine what makes your per capita crime rates that were submitted by 41 states to the FBI. Here’s how crime rates trended across the US, according to the report:
- Violent crimes rates held steady or decreased in 59% of states
- 41% of states saw a jump in violent crime year over year, last year was 68%
- Property crime rates held steady or decreased in 61% of states
- 39% of states saw a jump in property crime rates, last year it was 22%
- 16 states saw a dip in both violent and property crime rates year over year
- 10 states saw both violent and property crime rates rise year over year
