Jennifer Lopez: Did She End Things With A-Rod, And Why?
New reported details about Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez’s breakup are coming to light, with multiple sources confirming that it was Lopez who ultimately called off the relationship with Rodriguez.
According to People magazine, Lopez reached a point where she couldn’t full “trust” Rodriguez in the end. A friend of J-Lo’s said she “insisted” on the breakup: “There are too many issues that are unresolved. She has been pretty miserable and didn’t think it was in her best interests to stay with Alex.”
In a joint statement last week, the couple announced: “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
The former couple got engaged in the Bahamas in March 2019 after two years of dating. Apparently they have been quietly struggling for some time as the COVID-19 lockdown amplified their existing problems. “They both liked spending more time together as a family, but it was difficult to keep that special spark when they saw each other every day,” said another source of the couple.
When Lopez headed to the Dominican Republic to film her upcoming movie Shotgun Wedding, rumors of infidelity on Rodriguez’s end added strain to the relationship. A source said, “whether or not he has cheated doesn’t matter. She won’t tolerate the fear of it in the air between them.”
The former couple does not share any children together, although they have children from previous marriages. Lopez has thirteen-year old twins Emme Maribel Muniz and Maximilian David Muniz with ex- Marc Anthony. A-Rod has daughters 16-year-old Natasha and 12-year-old Ella. The duo also have several business ventures together and share properties in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
The had to postpone their wedding “because of COVID, because of the quarantine. And we actually did it twice, which people don’t know,” J-Lo said in December. A source said, “They will try to be friends, and there is respect there. But they are definitely going their separate ways.”
51-year-old Lopez “has been in these difficult situations before,” a friend said. “She is not one to sit around and cry. Her kids make her the happiest. She is doing well.”
52-year-old Anthony recently brought their twins to the DR to visit their mom, and he has been “very comforting” to J-Lo while she’s been working abroad.
