If there is one day that fashion comes to the forefront, it's the Met Gala. The Met Gala is the day celebrities take their outfits to the extreme and it's also the day we get to watch and see some of the most couture and unique outfits there are! Well, the 2025 Met Gala made news this week as the cochairs and themes have officially been announced.

The 2025 Met Gala is Coming

The 2025 Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 5th in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But, what is next year's theme? On Wednesday, October 9, officials announced that the 2025 Met Gala theme will be Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. This theme is to draw inspiration from Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity a book written by Monica L. Miller. The night will host garments, paintings, photographs, and more to reflect the style of Black men and Black dandy as its subject.

The theme broke the internet as many began listing off the celebrities they hoped to see in attendance based on their fashion sense. Social media named people like Janelle Monae and Teyana Taylor as two who expect to come as some of the best dressed for the night.

Not only was the theme trending, but the co-chairs for next year's Met Gala also caused some excitement. Pharell Williams, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, and Anna Wintour will be co-chairs for the event and LeBron James will be an honorary co-chair.

The official dress code has not been announced, but social media is beyond ready to tune in for the next Met Gala event! Many of your favorite celebrities have attended Met Galas in the past including Beyonce, Rihanna, Madonna, Gigi Hadid, the Kardashians, and more! Will your favorite celebrity be invited to the Met Gala in 2025? Stay tuned and we will find out!

About The 2024 Met Gala

The ball's theme will "reactivate the sensory capacities of masterworks in the Museum’s collection through first-hand research, conservation analysis, and diverse technologies—from cutting-edge tools, artificial intelligence, and computer-generated imagery to traditional formats of x-rays, video animation, light projection, and soundscapes."

Hundreds of garments and accessories spanning four centuries will be presented by the stars, "visually united by iconography related to nature, which will serve as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion and a vehicle to examine the cyclical themes of rebirth and renewal." The dress code for the guests is "The Garden of Time." It is inspired by a short story of the same title written by J.G. Ballard in 1962.

The 2024 Met Gala hosts are Gwendolyn Christie and Ashley Graham. Meanwhile, this year's co-chairs are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. They follow last year's star-studded hosts: Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour. Wintour has run the Met Gala since 1995.

The Gala is a highly exclusive fundraising benefit that serves as an opening celebration for the Institute's annual fashion exhibit. Following the event, the exhibition runs for several months. The 2024 Met Gala takes place on Monday, May 6, at 6 p.m. ET in New York City at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It will be livestreamed here.

Met Gala Flops

There are many years in which attendees at the Met Gala have notably mocked the ball's themes and showed up in elaborate costumes or didn't respect the aged garments. Most famously, when Kim Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe's dress at the 2022 Met, she was met with tons of backlash for destroying the garment.

Jared Leto is another frequent attendee of the Met, arriving in silly costumes. So far, he has shown up as a giant cat mascot, carrying his decapitated head, and showing up with a twin.

Take a look below at the 10 worst dressed at the 2024 Met Gala:

Keke Palmer at the Met Gala

It actually hurts to put Keke on our worst-dressed list when she usually knocks every look out of the park. For this year's theme, we don't think this gilded Cleopatra-esque look gives off garden vibes. We do realize that she is perhaps evoking the bark from a tree, but the golden hues take away from the nature theme of tonight's gala.

Rita Ora at the Met Gala

Rita Ora's face and hair were absolutely stunning, so we're sad to say her outfit, although very sexy, does not do it for us with the garden theme. The singer's heavily-beaded gown featured a nude bodysuit to cover her privates, but the colorful beads only being in the middle really lacks any sort of beauty.

Uma Thurman at the Met Gala

The 'Kill Bill' alum is killing us with this boring slate blue gown. Even though the gown has some structure, the way the fabric is bunching up makes her look frumpy. Her shoulders were affixed with 3D butterflies in shades of periwinkle, and is the only thing that gives this look some life. The train of her dress looks heavy and covers her feet, so the star looks like she is just swimming in fabric.

Kris Jenner at the Met Gala

The Kardashian matriarch showed up in head to toe pure white at this year's Met Gala. Jenner dressed in a voluminous satin outfit by Oscar de la Renta. She is swallowed by her cape, which cuts off at the elbow to show off satin gloves adorned with emerald rings. The gloves and cape sleeve length cut off her arm's length, making her appear much shorter and even more swallowed up by her outfit.

Sebastian Stan at the Met Gala

For some reason, the 'Pam & Tommy' star must have thought this year's theme was 'The Matrix,' because he looks like Neo. His floor-length black jacket has sequins and feathers detailing the bottom, with a very strange sparkling belt buckle that gives cowboy energy. The slicked-back hair and black shades add to his Matrix-looking getup.

Serena Williams at the Met Gala

Unfortunately, the tennis legend didn't manage to ace this Met look. Serena's golden gown is much too gaudy to give any of the ethereal elements a chance to shine through. She may have been going for gold, but her garden theme falls off the mark.

Bad Bunny at the Met Gala

Unfortunately, the co-chair's Met Gala look was very much not it. Bunny's John Galiano by Maison Margiela outfit has a corset underneath the jacket, which has messy white stitching. What really caught our attention in sending the "MONACO" rapper's jester-looking hat and those horrid horse shoe Tabis. The pose on top of that is just making everything look that much more comical.

Kim K's metal Margiela couture dress seemed like a copy of her other structured looks. Unable to move once again at the Met, the reality star covered up with a plain grey cropped cardigan. While on the carpet, she kept adjusting the sweater, which doesn't match her metal look one bit.

Doja Cat at the Met Gala

Quite literally arriving to the Met Gala soaking wet is Doja Cat. We have liked the singer and rapper's previous red carpet looks, but this just seems to be attention-seeking and not for the art and fashion that tonight's ball represents. With her makeup streaking down her face, the artist was wearing just a towel wrapped around her torso and head prior to heading to the event.

Sarah Jessica Parker at the Met Gala

The 'Sex and the City' alum managed to evoke both little girl and old lady in this horrendous caged organza gown that is adorned with lace and sequins. Her accessories took things to elderly fashion with a huge knotted pearl necklace and a giant sculpted hat that covers half of her face.
