Kanye West Uses Salt Lake City Sunday Service To Reiterate That ‘Republican Party Freed The Slaves’
On Saturday (Oct. 5), Kanye West appeared in Salt Lake City to present his Sunday Service. Shortly after ‘Ye took the stage, he went on a rant regarding the criticism he’s received over his pro-Trump commentary and shared with the crowd that it was a Republican president who freed enslaved Africans who were a part of the Transatlantic slave trade, as Complex reports.

“Abraham Lincoln was the Whig Party—that’s the Republican Party that freed the slaves,” West said, prior to telling the crowd he refuses to oppose Trump simply because he is black.
“[…] I ain’t never make a decision based only on my color. That’s a form of slavery — mental slavery. I ain’t drink from the white person fountain. … I ain’t playing with them. All these mind controllers, the media, all of these mind controllers. I find that wherever Christ is where I’ve got my mind at. We find that the love of Christ is where I’ve got my mind back.”
Last year, Kanye West made similar statements on social media and received mass criticism for not acknowledging that the Republican party has been realigned in the United States.
The “All Falls Down” rapper also suggested that the crowd be cautionary when it comes to social media.”Do not read comments on the internet,” he said. “These people don’t know you like that. Social media is designed to make you think slower. … They want to slow you down and control you.”
