Dishin’ With Debbie-An Inspiring Story Of Survival
I saw this story last week, and was not only amazed by the miraculous nature of it, but also by the many twists and turns this young man’s life has taken over the years. Brock Meister, a 22-year old from Indiana suffered a rare and devastating, not to mention usually fatal, an injury known as “internal decapitation” during a car accident in January. Luckily, first responders including friends and family had the presence of mind not to move Brock before stabilizing him in this very delicate state. Doctors were amazed the young man had survived but were cautiously optimistic about his prognosis after a life-threatening injury.
They had doubts he would walk again. However, Brock did come through his surgery, and just months after his accident, he is walking, and living what doctors believe will be a fairly normal life. Brock’s story is far from normal though, as this is not his first story of survival. At 16, Brock was diagnosed with brain cancer, which seemed untreatable, but after many rounds of radiation and chemo, he successfully beat it. But wait, the story doesn’t end there. This past July, just months after his accident, Brock and his brother were at the lake.
His brother got on a jet ski and attempted to start it. Something went wrong, and there was an explosion sending Brock’s brother 15 feet into the air landing in the water. And although Brock has a lift restriction and has not been able to lift more than 2 pounds since his accident, he reached into the water and pulled his 145-pound sibling out. Unbelievable, right? Take away…when you’re feeling defeated and finding it hard to face obstacles, use Brock’s story as inspiration. It’s truly amazing what he’s overcome, and obvious that his story is far from over.
