Lexi’s Listens is a new weekly post I’ll do with the songs I’ve been singing to nonstop! My hope is that if you’ve never heard of these, you might discover some new hits to listen to.
I’m really excited about this week’s picks because while not all of them are even closely the same genre, they are all incredibly good. So this week we have a variety of high-quality jams!!
From TikTok
First up, there are three songs that I found on TikTok that you need to hear. Be Gentle is a song by emerging artist Danielle Ponder. I found her music on my TikTok’s fyp which is one of the top places I discover new music. I immediately fell in love with this song as well as The King by Sarah Kinsley. Both will lift you up and make you just feel happy to be alive. The intro to The King is one of the most beautiful progressions I’ve heard. Take a listen.
The third song from TikTok is an amazing cover of a song called Tom’s Diner. The cover done by Annenmaykantereit and Giant Rooks features the sample taken to create the intro to Fall Out Boy’s Centuries. Don’t worry, it’s very obvious, you’ll recognize it immediately.
Throwbacks
Then, we have the throwbacks of the week. I rediscovered a song that I didn’t even know the name until now, but I had heard it before. Spectrum (Say My Name) from Calvin Harris and Florence the Machine is one you’ll most likely recognize if you went to middle school around 2010. The other throwback is a new remix I discovered of Foster the People’s Sit Next To Me. It makes it less of a bedroom pop vibe and more of an upbeat, dance song.
Bi Anthems
Finally, we have Dove Cameron’s Boyfriend, which is now playing on Kiss. And I am obsesssssssed. This bi anthem speaks to my soul and it reminds me of the last hit for today which is from another emerging artist named King Mala. If you like Dove’s new song, you’ll love she calls me daddy. King Mala has a similar sound to Dove as well as Billie Eilish and maybe Tate McRae a little? Check all these hits out below!!
