Lexi’s Listens is a weekly post I’ll do with the songs I’ve been singing to nonstop! My hope is that if you’ve never heard of these, you might discover some new hits to listen to.
Last week, I didn’t post a Lexi’s Listens because I hadn’t really found any new music to listen to. But since then, I’ve found some really great songs that span over a few genres. First and foremost, we just put Lizzo’s new single About Damn Time on Kiss! So you’ll be hearing that live on our station, but if you haven’t seen the music video yet, you’ve got to. Check it out at #1 below.
Hip Hop Hits
Fruit Punch is another new song I just discovered. Although it’s really only new to me, it actually came out around 2016. It’s got a good beat and the lyrics are all about having a good time, so it might be a really great summer song. Also in the hip-hop genre, I found an older song from Rae Sremmurd that I’d never heard of before called Guatemala. I immediately liked it because it has one of those beats that reminds me of reggaeton. It makes me want to get up and dance 🙂 Check those our at #2 and #3.
Like Imogen Heap
Switching gears genre-wise, I’ve never really listened to Imogen Heap. I’ve heard of her and her music, but I’ve never gotten the chance to listen until now. Hide and Seek at #4, you might know is one of her most popular and well-known songs. And I actually started listening to that song when I found another artist of TikTok called BUZZ. She posted a video of her new song called Liberation which you can check out at #5. Everyone in the comments says she has a similar style to Imogen, so I had to listen to both to see for myself. And I certainly see what they mean. Both artists have very similar sounds as well as voices.
Finally, I found the very last song on an Indie Pop playlist that had artists like Maggie Rogers, Phoebe Bridgers, and Chappell Roan. I found a song called nothing else i could do by ella jane. I personally am automatically drawn to her style of music because it’s dancey, but not like regular pop. See what you think at #6 below.
Happy listening!! 🙂
