Lexi’s Listens is a new weekly post I’ll do with the songs I’ve been singing to nonstop! My hope is that if you’ve never heard of these, you might discover some new hits to listen to.
Throwbacks
This week, I’ve got three throwbacks, two you probably know of. Coldplay’s Paradise is an absolute magical classic that I just started listening to again…and haven’t been able to stop. That one is so magical to me, as is almost all of Coldplay’s music. The other throwback you probably know if you are a Nickelodeon millennial/Gen Z. I just discovered that all of Zoey 101 is on Amazon Prime (which comes with a Paramount+ subscription) so I started watching it last night. Made it through the entire first season and at this point, I’m re-obsessed with the theme song.
This third throwback was one of those free singles on iTunes they used to have. It’s a lesser-known song by Animal Kingdom called Strange Attractor that came out in 2012. This song is pretty unique to me, I can’t think of anything else really like it. I’d classify it though as alternative rock maybe? It’s pretty upbeat, but somehow also haunting in a way. You’ll see what I mean. Take a listen below, it’s #6.
New Songs
On top of those, I’ve got 3 new songs listed. Tyga and Doja Cat came out with their single called Freaky Deaky, which sounds a lot like Doja’s other music. The other two new songs are by lesser-known artists.
One of them, Alemeda, has a song with a title that definitely caught my attention immediately. It’s called Gonna Bleach My Eyebrows, and it was released in December. It has a magical quality to it with the soft electric keyboard sounds, while also having a pretty quick beat. The music video for this song is the first video Alemeda has made. She is an emerging artist from Ethiopia and Sudan. Support her by streaming on Spotify or Apple Music.
The other artist is Jordan Occasionally who sings Lie Lie Lie, which I came across on my FYP on TikTok. Jordan is an emerging nonbinary artist whose voice adds a dreamy, smooth sound to their Afrobeat music. Follow and support this artist on TikTok @jordanoccasionally, Spotify, and Apple Music.
