Holiday movies are becoming more diverse every year. Cable networks with a strong foothold in the genre (like Hallmark and Lifetime) have joined Netflix and Hulu in becoming more open-minded about what kinds of Christmas stories they want to tell. And this year, LGBTQ+ stories are everywhere. Here are a few highlights:
“The Holiday Sitter” is Hallmark’s first gay-centered Christmas movie to date. “Mean Girls” hunk Jonathan Bennett plays a bachelor uncle stuck with his niece and nephew when he meets a handsome man from next door.
Representing the Bisexual community is “A New York Christmas Wedding” (Netflix), about a woman who bails on her wedding only to rekindle a romance with her high school best friend. “The Nanny” star Fran Drescher tries to play matchmaker for her young son while also overseeing their town’s Christmas festivities in “The Christmas Setup” (Lifetime).
Some others worth checking out are Merry & Gay, Make The Yuletide Gay, Single All The Way, Under The Christmas Tree, Happiest Season, Seasons of Love and Let It Snow.
