National Donut Day 2024 And Where You Can Get The Best Deals

Of all the national food days we have every year, this is one I really look forward to! Friday, June 7 is National Donut Day 2024, and here's where to get the best deals.

I was watching the Today Show as I always do, and they began to alert us to the deals coming Friday for National Donut Day. I love donuts, so, I paid close attention.

According to their report, three of the big national chains participating in National Donut Day 2024 are Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' and Duck Donuts. Of course there are plenty more. But we'll focus on those for now.

Our beloved North Carolina born and bred Krispy Kreme offers up a free doughnut of choice on National Donut Day this year. The chain's Instagram post says pick up the free donut in store or via the drive-ins as long as they aren't special or limited edition flavors.

You can also get a dozen of classic glazed for just $2. Check store for details and participation.

Next, Dunkin' is giving customers a free donut with any beverage purchase on Friday to celebrate the day.

And, Duck Donuts posted "Join the Party" and get a fee cinnamon sugar donut. Duck says 'NO purchase necessary and in-shop only!'

So, those are some of the big deals for National Donut Day 2024. But, how and why did it all begin?

According to thekitchn.com, National Donut Day was established by the Salvation Army in 1938. It honored "Donut Lassies." Those were women who served the European delicacy donuts to American soldiers during the war.

And, the little fluffy, hard to resist bites became more popular in the U.S. once the soldiers returned home and longed for the treats they'd enjoyed overseas.

So, now National Donut Day is celebrated the first Friday of June each year. And, we couldn't be happier. Keep your eyes peeled for more deals, but these suggestions will get your celebration started!

Friday, June 2 is National Donut Day, and ahead of the celebration, Yelp released its second annual Top 100 US Donut Shops list. And apparently, NC has some delicious donuts. One North Carolina Donut shop was named the second-best in the entire country. The highly praised donuts come to us from Asheville. And 2nd best, that's some high praise. They weren't alone as 5 total North Carolina places made Yelp's list. This includes donuts from Asheville, Fayetteville, and Concord among others.

While my current favorite donut spot, The Salty, didn't make the cut, I'll be sure to check out a couple of these locations. I enjoy a good gourmet donut but I also can't turn down a hot now Krispy Kreme glazed donut. There just might not be anything better! The best donut I've had lately- a butterbeer one from the previously mentioned The Salty. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for my waistline) it was a limited-time offering. So how did Yelp come up with these ratings that ranked a North Carolina Donut Shop 2nd best in the country? According to Yelp, they "identified businesses in the donuts category, then ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews between January 1st, 2022 and March 31st, 2023."

Have you tried HOLE? I haven't but I typically visit Asheville at least once a year so I will definitely be adding this to my list for my next visit!

This is the second time Superior Bakery in Fayetteville has made the top 100 list, though that took a substantial jump this year.

Apparently, I'm not up on my donuts, while Raleigh is my second home, I've never tried Baker's Dozen either.
