NC Woman Wins The Lottery and Doesn’t Know For 6 Weeks!
An NC Woman wins the lottery and doesn’t know for 6 weeks. A North Carolina woman has won $1 million dollars on a ticket she forgot about. According to the NC Education Lottery Wake County resident, Patricia Scharville purchased the winning ticket six weeks ago but left it in her drawer before going out to dinner. Six weeks later she decided to scratch it off and got the surprise of a lifetime.
“We bought tickets, put them in a drawer because we came home to eat dinner, and we just forgot about them,” she recalled. “We just scratched it off last week. It was a nice Saturday night. We were sitting on the front porch, and we thought ‘Let’s scratch off the tickets. We feel lucky tonight!’” She told the lottery.
They were definitely right about feeling lucky!
“I just handed it to him and said, ‘I think there’s something wrong with this ticket,’” she said. “He looked at the ticket and was like, ‘Oh my god.’ And so I was like, ‘OK. So it’s real!’”
The ticket was a $10 Bankroll ticket. Scharville purchased it at the OHM Quick Shop on Capital Boulevard in Wake Forest.
She had the option of taking the $1 million prize as an annuity of $50,000 a year for 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000.
Scharville elected to take the lump sum of $600,000. She claimed her prize this past Friday in Raleigh and took home $424,503 after taxes.
She and her husband plan to spend the money on the beach house they have always wanted. No doubt that beach house will be worth the wait in multiple ways.
