Report: “Ellen” Staff Wasn’t Told About Pay Cut Or Show Changes
Staff at “The Ellen DeGeneres” show are not happy with how the show’s shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic was handled.
Sources tell Variety that the core crew of 30 did not receive any “written communication about the status of their working hours, pay or inquiries about their mental and physical health from producers for over a month.”
DeGeneres’ stage crew also found out that an outside, non-union company was hired to help film remote episodes from the talk show host’s home. The crew has also been notified of a 60-percent reduction in pay. Only four core crew are working on the show at this point.
Many of the key crew have been with DeGeneres since the taping of the talk show’s pilot, 17 years ago. Warner Bros. acknowledges that communication was lacking, but cites the chaos surrounding the situation as the problem.
