Billy Ray Cyrus Slams Estranged Wife For Saying He Left Her Over Mastectomy
Billy Ray Cyrus slams estranged wife Firerose for claiming that he left her over her mastectomy. Per gossip website TMZ, the 34-year-old singer said Billy Ray, 62, abandoned their marriage the day before her scheduled double mastectomy.
Firerose, who is still using Firerose Cyrus as her name on Instagram, also claims that she was under the impression the country star would finance her procedure, but he didn’t. According to her, this left her “scrambling to pull finances together.”
Cyrus Slams Estranged Wife
As for the “Could’ve Been Me” singer, Billy Ray filed a legal response to his estranged wife’s allegations this week. Per the gossip site, he claims there were many lies involving her mastectomy. From the date of her scheduled surgery being different from what she alleged to the procedure being elective and not highly recommended by doctors, Cyrus also claims she didn’t even have cancer while they were together and only learned about it after their October 2023 marriage.
Additionally, Billy Ray says Firerose’s scheduled double mastectomy was a calculated move for her to tarnish his career. He claims she said to him, “If you even think about divorcing me right now, I will tell everyone that you did it because of the double mastectomy, and your career will be over.”
However, the Grammy winner acknowledges that Firerose is a carrier of the BRCA1 gene linked to breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, a person who inherits certain mutations in a BRCA1 gene has a higher risk of getting breast, ovarian, prostate, and other types of cancer. Despite that, Billy Ray alleges Firerose knew she carried the gene for four years before the two of them got together.
As we recently reported, Billy Ray filed court documents claiming Firerose fraudulently led him into marriage. He said that Firerose, whose legal name is Johanna Rose Hodges, had been “conducting a campaign to isolate the Plaintiff from his family,” and blocked “at least one” of his daughters from being able to contact him.
Firerose Claps Back
A representative for Firerose responded to Billy Ray’s recent filing, saying: “Billy Ray’s story keeps evolving, and this filing is simply another abusive tactic to distract away from the serious, true allegations brought against him, backed by an abundance of evidence. The only individuals supporting his false claims are those on his payroll, whose credibility is questionable.”
Her rep went on to slam Billy Ray for “the audacity to question a BRCA-positive” woman’s decision to undergo a preventative surgery, “further shows the kind of cruel manipulation” Firerose was subjected to. The rep added scathing claims that Billy Ray has a “decades-long history of emotional and psychological abuse” and people have started “to take notice. The truth will come to light.”
On Friday, June 21, Billy Ray posted a clip on Instagram with the caption: “So relieved to be living in truth and light …”
