Charlotte Museum Of History Receives $50,000 From Truist
The Charlotte Museum of History announced Wednesday that they had received a $50,000 donation from Truist. The money will go to support the day-to-day operations of the museum. The gift was made as part of Truist’s Executive Leadership Volunteer Day which was hosted at the museum. As part of the Volunteer day AMP UP! Charlotte, ASPIRE Community Capital, and NXT|CLT also were awarded donations of $50,000 each.
“Donations of general operating funds are vital because they pay for the people and the spaces that make our programs possible. Ultimately, these funds translate directly into educational programming and exhibits so that our community can learn about Charlotte’s diverse history,” said Adria Focht, president & CEO of The Charlotte Museum of History. “Truist listened and responded when we told them what we needed most. The museum is deeply grateful for this type of support and partnership.”
This is not the first time Truist has shown their support of the Museum. Earlier this year the company announced a $5,400 grant to the Charlotte Museum of History from Truist Foundation which was used to provide free virtual field trips to the museum’s “Inside Siloam School” exhibit. The Siloam School Exhibit examines segregation in Charlotte and the impact of local Rosenwald Schools during the Jim Crow era. The schools featured were built by local Black communities to provide a quality education for their children during segregation. There were originally 26 of these schools in Mecklenburg County. Currently, the museum is leading a community effort to restore the historic Siloam School. With the goal of returning the building to its life as an educational space and a place for community dialogue.
