How Charlotte North Carolina Will Celebrate MLK Day 2024
We know them as The Gantt, but the proper name is The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture. They’re the best organization celebrating the contributions of Africans and African Americans to American culture. Their MLK Day Celebration 2024, titled Truth and Reconciliation Monday is January 15th from 9 am to 6 pm. All ages are welcome to attend and the cost is FREE. The 50th Anniversary will kick off “The Gantt Golden Year”, by celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Gantt.
RSVP and join us at the Gantt on January 15th
The Gantt has special relationships, including partnering with programs with the Levine Museum of the New South. All include a globally integrated dance performance inspired by Rev. Dr. King’s reach and a panel discussion that examines equity through arts, culture, and history. The beautiful Gantt Museum has a store with collections from local artisans, artists, and vendors that represent some of the best in Black art, literature, stationery items, and more.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. If he was alive in 2024 he would be 94 years old. His wife, Coretta Scott King died on January 30, 2006, at the rehabilitation center in Rosarito Beach, Mexico at the Oasis Hospital. She was undergoing holistic therapy for a stroke and advanced-stage ovarian cancer.
