North Carolina DMV Kiosks Help 25,000 People in First Year at Harris Teeter
As of Monday, the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) reports that more than 25,000 customers have used its self-service kiosks located in Harris Teeter grocery stores across Mecklenburg County. The pilot program launched a year ago was designed to enhance customer service and reduce wait times by offering convenient access to DMV services outside traditional office settings.
Building on the success of the program, the NCDMV is expanding the kiosk initiative to six new locations. “I am excited to announce the expansion of our kiosk pilot to six more locations,” said DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin. “This is another example of the work we are doing to shorten lines and wait times by using technology to modernize our customer service and provide more options for customers to get what they need in a timely manner.”
The kiosks allow users to complete a variety of transactions, including renewing vehicle registrations, paying property taxes, and renewing driver’s licenses. Upon completing their transactions, Customers can immediately receive products like temporary paper licenses, ID cards, and registration stickers. The kiosks are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to kiosks already operating in Harris Teeter locations in Charlotte — such as Quail Corners, Town Center Plaza, Central Avenue, and Riverbend Village — the expansion includes kiosks at the Village District in Raleigh, Cary Village Square, Fuquay Crossing in Fuquay-Varina, Brier Creek in Raleigh, and Highland Centre in Fayetteville. Another kiosk is planned for the Soldier Support Center in Fayetteville.
These self-service kiosk options add to NCDMV’s existing online offerings, which are part of a larger and ongoing effort to modernize operations and provide customers with more flexibility. The network of kiosks is helping to make regular DMV services easier and faster for residents of North Carolina.
