Why the Grammy Awards Keep Using Trevor Noah as Host
In case you missed it, Trevor Noah is hosting the Grammy Awards again this year. This year will be his fifth time hosting
In a 2024 CBS Mornings interview with Gayle King (via CBS News), Noah mentioned how hosting the Grammys is “nerve-wracking.” He said, “I don’t know what’s going to happen. So that’s what I love about the Grammys is it’s live; it’s happening; it’s on the fly.”
To celebrate his return, let’s go back and see why he deserved to host the Grammys again this year.

Some comedians go overboard with jokes. But Noah isn’t one of those. In fact, during his opening monologue at the 2024 Grammy Awards, he defended Taylor Swift who was the subject of jokes just for being a supportive girlfriend to Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce by watching his games.
Noah said, “Like she’s controlling the cameras at the games, right? Let her live. In fact, tonight on Taylor’s behalf, you know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna give her a break. Every time they mention Taylor Swift, I’m gonna get revenge. Every time someone says Taylor Swift, I’m gonna cut the cameras to someone who played football.”

During a cute “aww” moment at the 2023 Grammy Awards, Noah played the role of a wish-granting genie. He fulfilled Adele and Dwayne Johnson’s wish to meet each other. In past interviews, Adele mentioned that she always wanted to meet Johnson. Apparently, Johnson is also a huge fan of the singer. So, Noah worked his magic and introduced the two!

Noah joked that he didn’t get paid for hosting the 2022 Grammy Awards and instead will get his remuneration for spending time with K-pop superstars, RM, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, V and Jungkook, collectively known as BTS. In an interview with Variety, Noah mentioned they are the “nicest group of people you’ll ever meet.”
He added, “And not, like, nice — because sometimes people say ‘nice,’ but they lose the context. They’ll be like, ‘Oh, nice to other celebrities, nice to other…’. You know what I mean? No, they’re just nice in every interaction that they have with people and what they do.”
Trevor Noah at the 63rd Grammy Awards
The 2021 Grammy Awards marked the first time Trevor Noah hosted the show, and he did a great job (after all, he wouldn’t have been invited back otherwise, right?), despite the challenges of broadcasting during the pandemic. He joked about the pandemic, vaccines, cotton swab testing, and how we all have that one uncle who walks around naked during Zoom meetings.
He ended his opening monologue with a message of hope and that “2021 can be full of joy, new beginnings and coming together. Never forgetting what happened in 2020, but full of hope for what is to come,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
The 67th Annual Grammy Awards will air live on February 2 on CBS and Paramount+.
