April 2nd Is ‘National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day’ And Now There’s A Fragrance For That
The other day, my co-worker, Alexis, burst into the studio and said, “Smell this!” I wasn’t doing anything particularly important at the time, so I did. She held out a small glass bottle filled with a golden liquid. It smelled like grapes. No, wait. Grape jelly. And something else. Peanut butter? Yup, it was a bottle of peanut butter & jelly perfume.
Based in Great Neck, NY, Demeter Fragrance Library is known for its fun and unexpected scents. PB & J is now available as roll-on perfume oil, cologne spray, shower gel, body lotion, massage oil, atmosphere diffuser, and purse spray. And not a moment too soon. Thursday, April 2nd is National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day.
I’ve been a Smucker’s man for as long as I can remember, but the idea of wearing my favorite childhood comfort food as a cologne has its appeal, too. Perhaps it’s best splashed on after a milk bath?
Demeter sent along a couple of other fragrance samples, too. As with PB & J, their Crayon roll-on perfume oil is also reminiscent of childhood. I picked up a hint of bubblegum mixed with the unmistakable waxy nostalgia of opening a fresh 64-pack of Crayolas. You know, the one with the built-in sharpener.
And then there was Fuzzy Balls. Thankfully, they put a photo of tennis balls on the label, otherwise, I never would have taken the cap off the bottle. This one is slightly floral with an undertone of rubber. It smells like a victory at the U.S. Open.
Demeter Fragrance Library’s scent selection includes dozens of other surprises, such as Dirt, Funeral Home, Lobster, Mildew, Play-Doh, and Rye Bread. They’ve also started making something that addresses the COVID-19 crisis.
The company is now producing an unscented hand sanitizer spray in order to help combat the current shortage. Their FDA-approved formula contains 80% Ethyl Alcohol, the active ingredient that kills germs on contact. In the near future, Demeter hopes to add lightly scented versions in limited scents.
