Modern luxuries but with historic charm create my ideal place to stay on a vacation. There is nothing quite like stepping into a hotel and knowing it has stood the test of time. I've been lucky enough to stay in or at least visit historic hotels all across the country. But you don't have to travel far and wide to get this experience. In fact, North Carolina is home to seven historic hotels. Many of these are nestled in the mountains, one in a classic golf community, and even in a Triad and Triangle city.

All seven of these North Carolina historic hotels are part of the Historic Hotels of America: National Trust For Historic Preservation. You can get more info at HistoricHotels.com

Omni Grove Park Inn (Asheville)

There is nothing quite like watching the sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains off the back of this historic hotel. Located in Asheville this hotel is magical any time of year, but it's indescribable at Christmas. Not to mention the world-class spa and golf.

Green Park Inn (Blowing Rock)

The Green Park Inn has been around for over 130 years. Nestled in Blowing Rock the Inn prides itself on being a refuge to travelers seeking the peace and beauty of the North Carolina High Country. A stay here means you're just steps away from the historic downtown, Tweetsie Railroad, Moses Cone Manor, and other attractions. The Green Park Inn is also the last of the Grand Manor hotels in western NC.

Pinehurst Resort (Pinehurst)

A stay in Pinehurst is like a trip back in time. This gorgeous resort is over a century old and still brings the ambiance of a golden era of grand hotels. It's nicknamed the "Queen of The South" and easy to see why.

The Graylyn Estate (Winston-Salem)

The story of the Graylyn dates back to the 1920s. It began as one of the largest private homes in America, but today boasts a conference center and nearly 60 guest rooms.

21c Museum Hotel Durham by MGallery

This historic hotel also doubles as an art gallery. Guests can enjoy the exhibits 24/7. The 21c Museum Hotel is located in the heart of downtown Durham.

Mast Farm Inn (Valle Crucis)

The Mast Farm Inn is a North Carolina institution. This historic country inn and restaurant resides in the Valle Crucis Historical District of North Carolina. The area which also features the Mast General Store has been opening its doors to guests since the 1800s. You can't beat the hospitality of this southern rural mountain retreat.

Haywood Park (Asheville)

The Haywood Park Hotel is located in what was once Asheville's iconic first department store, Bon Marche. Today it's a classic-revival style hotel that has been serving guests since 1985 walking distance from all downtown Asheville has to offer.
