Choosing where to settle down and raise your children is an important decision. Your job and being around family are important. But so are other factors like schools, cost of living, recreational activities, and more. That's why our friends at StorageCafe released a data-driven report on the best cities for families with kids. And one North Carolina city ranked as one of the best to raise children in. While we already know that NC is a great place, it's nice to see it confirmed by others!

What makes a great environment for raising children? Safe neighborhoods, access to quality education, and cultural and outdoor opportunities for one. Additionally, in this economy, you need to factor in affordability and the job market. With families in mind, Storage Cafe ranked the 100 largest cities in the country. Rankings were based on 29 metrics, including public school ratings, safety, home prices, cost of groceries, the share of families with children, cultural and outdoor recreation opportunities, and more.

  • With some of the best high schools in the country, Raleigh ranks 12th among the country's top 100 cities for its public school rankings. In fact, 54% of the city's adults over the age of 25 hold a high school diploma.
  • The city also ranks #9 in our top 100 for amusement and recreational options, making it a perfect place for all members of the family. There are approximately 5,2 basketball hoops per 10,000 residents, 4,7 tennis courts per 20,000 residents and 1,3 volleyball nets per 20,000 residents.
  • Raleigh families can make a pretty penny. The median family income in Raleigh is $97K per year, which is 15% higher than the national average.
  • The city outranks most of the other urban hubs around the country in terms of air quality, allowing Raleigh families to live in a healthy environment.
