Lexi’s Listens is a weekly post I’ll do with the songs I’ve been singing to nonstop! My hope is that if you’ve never heard of these, you might discover some new hits to listen to.

Shakira

To start us off, I’ve really been feeling Shakira’s music recently. She came out with a new song in late April with Rauw Alejandro, who is one of my favorite Latin singers. It’s a song about congratulating an ex on never changing their ways, and I LOVE IT!! It is a dance hit, and I’ve been obsessed, so that’s why it’s #1 on today’s list. Please listen and dance as you wish 🙂 Although Shakira’s Girl Like Me with Black Eyed Peas is about a year old, I still love listening so check it out at #2.

Feeling Dancey?

Continuing with the dance music, which I’ve been listening to a lot lately, we’ve got Cedric Gervais’s remix of DJ Snake’s Loco Contigo. With the original, I really felt like it was just too slow of a beat for the type of song it is. So in this remix, Cedric Gervais did speed it up tremendously and I love it because it’s a better tempo to dance to. Check it out at #3.

While browsing through Latin dance music, I also came across a dance version of House of the Rising Sun, which you might know already as the 1964 song recorded by The Animals. It’s an epic classic that NIELS VAN GOGH & New Sound Nation somehow made to sound epic AND electronic. This one is not my favorite from today’s list, but I do always appreciate a great new twist on a classic. Check it out at #4.

The Only 2 That Are Not Dance Songs

The last two songs are the only two that aren’t necessarily a dance song, even though you could definitely dance to them. I’ve rediscovered Alicia Keys’s “If I Ain’t Got You” which is a song I loved to sing at the top of my lungs as a kid. I think the chords are some of the prettiest I’ve ever heard, and it might be because the piano speaks to me more than many other instruments. If you haven’t heard it in a while, let the beginning piano take you into Alicia’s soulful ballad at #5.

A newer softer song is Mina Okabe’s Every Second, which I actually found on YouTube when it automatically started playing one day after a song I had chosen. It’s a soft, sweet song that makes you stop and appreciate it, no matter what you’re doing when it comes on. It envelops you in warmth and I wanna say it feels kind of like an audio hug. 🙂 Check it out at #6 today for Lexi’s Listens.
