Many people have been taking early trip to the pumpkin patch to pick out their pumpkin's already, but with weeks until Halloween, you want to make sure your pumpkin stays fresh. Nothing is sadder than when your pumpkin rots before Halloween, and doesn't get it's moment to shine as a jack-o-lantern.
Turns out, there are some tips and tricks on how to keep your pumpkins fresh. Here are some of the best tips I found on how to keep you pumpkin fresher, longer.
Clean it!
Clean the inside of the pumpkin with a teaspoon of bleach per one quart of water
Bleach Bath
Give it a bleach-water bath after you carve it. All you need is a bucket filled with water and 2/3 cup of bleach. Leave the pumpkin there to soak for up to 24 hours.
Treat the skin
Put Petroleum Jelly on it to help it from drying out on the outside
Water
Did you know you need to water your pumpkin? Pumpkins shrivel up because they run out of moisture. Spraying it every day with water mixed with a few drops of bleach will keep it moist and ward off bacteria.
Keep it cool
You can store your pumpkin in the fridge overnight to help keep it fresh!
Ice baths aren't just for people
If your pumpkin is starting to wilt, put it in an ice bath overnight to help refresh it.
Make sure it like the temperature!
Pumpkins do best in temperatures around 50-60 degrees!
Wait to carve
Lastly, the longer you wait to carve your pumpkin, the longer it will last.
